In order to complete this math review, you need to figure out the SECRET CODE that will unlock this webpage. Each topic that you complete correctly will give you ONE character of the code. Collect them all in the correct order. (Yes, caps matter.) GOOD LUCK!
1. Prime Factorization
- Find the prime factorization of the numbers 16, 54, and 100.
- Multiply the second prime factor of 16 by the third prime factor of 54.
- Take that number and multiply it by the last two prime factors of 100.
- Add up the digits in your number. That digit is the first character of the code.
2. Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple
- Find the greatest common factor of 50 and 20 using any strategy you choose.
- Find the least common multiple of 63 and 42.
- Multiply your two answers together.
- Take the second digit of the number and the third digit of the number to create a new number.
- Find the letter that corresponds with that number. (ex: A=1, B=2, etc.)
- That letter (in caps) is the second character of the code.
3. Multiplying and Dividing Fractions and Mixed Numbers
- You need to bake 3 batches of cupcakes. Each batch needs 2 1/3 cups of sugar. How many cups of sugar do you need for all of the batches of cupcakes?
- You have 5 1/4 feet of string to make bracelets. Each bracelets needs 7/12 feet of string. How many bracelets can you make?
- Put the answer to the first problem over the answer to the second problem to create a fraction.
- Change this fraction into a decimal. This is a repeating decimal. Round it to the nearest hundredth.
- Change the decimal to a percent. Use the key below to get the third character of the code:
- 0%-20% = p
- 21%-40% = Y
- 41%-60% = w
- 61%-80% = 7
- 81%-100% = 3
- 101%-120% = r
4. Dividing Whole Numbers and Decimals
- Divide 9735 by 12. Write your answer as a decimal.
- Divide 24,396 by 38.
- Subtract your second answer from your first answer.
- Add up the digits in your number.
- Find the letter that corresponds with that number. (ex: A=1, B=2, etc.)
- That letter (lowercase) is the fourth character of the code.
5. Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing Decimals
- You buy three pairs of pants at the mall. Two of them are $14.55, and the other pair is $16.99. You pay with a $50 bill. How much change will you get back?
- A plane flew 1898.4 miles in 5.6 hours. What was its average speed in miles per hour?
- Compare your two answers. Find the answer that is the greater number.
- Divide the number by 3.
- Add up the digits of your answer.
- That number is the fifth character of the code.
6. Converting and Comparing Fractions, Decimals, and Percents
- Convert 18/25 to a decimal.
- Convert 3.56 to a percent.
- Convert 0.7% to a fraction.
- Which is greatest?
- If it is 18/25, the sixth character of the code is T.
- If it is 3.56, the sixth character of the code is G.
- If it is 0.7%, the sixth character of the code if F.
7. Statistical Questions
- What did the students at Roosevelt have for lunch?
- How many silver medals did the USA win in the 2018 Winter Olympics?
- How many siblings do all 6th graders in New Jersey have?
- What is the coldest month of the year on this Earth?
- One of the above questions is not a statistical question. Research the answer to the question. The answer to the question is the seventh character of the code.
